[17:40:46]

[17:40:56]

I think we are doing good generally speaking
[17:43:47]
<nuvolari>
I'll give it a minute or 2 more

[17:45:55]
<nuvolari>
moving on...
[17:46:11]
<nuvolari>
Maaz: topic Administrativia and Announcements
[17:46:11]
<Maaz>
Current Topic: Administrativia and Announcements
[17:46:57]
<nuvolari>
I think the most important announcement is tomorrows LoCo Re-Approval meeting
[17:47:12]
<nuvolari>
but I added it as an item under events
[17:47:22]
<magespawn>
Where and when is the meeting taking place?
[17:47:23]
<nuvolari>
so we might keep it off until then
[17:47:28]
<magespawn>
okay
[17:48:50]
<nuvolari>

[17:50:30]
<superfly>
No, it is 20:00 UTC, which makes it 22:00 for us
[17:50:32]
<superfly>
IIRC
[17:50:35]
<maiatoday>
#ubuntu-meeting I think
[17:50:45]

[17:50:49]
<maiatoday>
Yes 22:00
[17:50:53]
<inetpro>
sorry for being late
[17:50:53]
<nuvolari>
welcome inetpro

[17:51:18]
<maiatoday>
My cut and paste us slow I am on the tablet
[17:51:28]
<Kilos>
ty superfly
[17:51:40]
<nuvolari>
who's running the mailing list?
[17:51:48]
<nuvolari>
or has access to the info
[17:51:48]
<Kilos>
peeps can take an early nap and come back for the meeting
[17:52:00]
<nuvolari>
that I don't know, and we need some of that numbers for the stats
[17:52:30]
<maiatoday>
I will work on the wiki page tomorrow morning some more
[17:52:42]
<maiatoday>
I will add the photos I collected
[17:53:06]
<nuvolari>
maiatoday: I took a look at the wiki page and I think it looks good, thanks!
[17:53:39]
<nuvolari>
The only section bugging me is the stats section, it's kind of repeating the online activities section, not?
[17:53:56]
<maiatoday>
It needs a few touch ups and then I think it should be ok
[17:53:59]
<inetpro>
nuvolari: as far as I am aware drubin_ still has access to the mailing list details
[17:54:28]
<maiatoday>
We had a stats section last time but we are missing something stats
[17:54:50]
<nuvolari>
inetpro: thanks, I'll mail him to find out about that
[17:54:52]
<maiatoday>
Last time we had graphs of irc activity
[17:55:09]
<nuvolari>
Maaz: agreed nuvolari to find out about mailing list stats from drubin_
[17:55:09]
<Maaz>
Agreed: nuvolari to find out about mailing list stats from drubin_
[17:55:25]
<maiatoday>
If we don't have useful stats by tomorrow we could take that section out
[17:55:28]
<inetpro>
maiatoday: we tried getting some irc stats
[17:55:36]
<maiatoday>
Ok
[17:56:04]
<inetpro>
sadly the page which gave stats last time around stopped doing it some time I think in 2010 or 2011
[17:56:30]
<nuvolari>
meh :-/
[17:56:32]
<maiatoday>
I don't think it's that serious if we don't have stats
[17:56:51]
<Cantide>
should someone be tasked with running a bot that collects stats?
[17:56:56]
<nuvolari>
yeah, they can take our word for it :P we were quite active this year
[17:57:02]
<inetpro>
superfly and myself tried something but it ended up not being so simple as expected
[17:57:07]
<mazal>
I think the most important one is the number of active members in the community
[17:57:18]
<inetpro>
problem is to find the time
[17:57:21]
<maiatoday>
If the wiki page is pretty decent and a fair amount of us go to the meeting we should be ok
[17:57:29]
<superfly>
I have something that is workable (And I'm working on at the moment)
[17:57:40]
<maiatoday>
Also once I add the slide show it will help too
[17:57:51]
<nuvolari>
ooh :> slides
[17:57:53]
<superfly>
it is not 100% accurate, but it should be good enough to give people a feel for how active the channel is on average
[17:58:08]
<maiatoday>
That's fine
[17:58:13]
<inetpro>
superfly: good news!
[17:58:14]
<magespawn>
okay ?
[17:58:18]
<nuvolari>
thank you superfly, greatly appreciated!
[17:58:21]
<inetpro>
thanks for your efforts
[17:58:28]

[18:05:10]
<smile>
* go
[18:05:30]
<inetpro>
nuvolari: in that case I just want us to focus for a minute on our website, that is if superfly is ready to discuss it
[18:05:51]
<superfly>
I guess
[18:05:52]
<inetpro>
perhaps we can move the item to our next meeting
[18:05:54]
<superfly>
what's up?
[18:05:57]
<nuvolari>
ok right, we can do that
[18:06:12]
<inetpro>
superfly: we where discussing having just a plain static site
[18:06:16]
<nuvolari>
inetpro: your decision
[18:06:20]
<inetpro>
were*
[18:06:59]
<inetpro>
so the meeting has to decide whether we keep things as is or whether we simplify it
[18:07:16]
<smile>
Kilos: thanks I'll not disturb your meeting
[18:07:30]

[18:09:36]
<nuvolari>
I think to simplify it would help ya
[18:09:36]
<inetpro>
http://ubuntu-za.org/
[18:09:39]
<smile>
but more difficult to edit :|
[18:09:39]
<magespawn>

[18:09:41]
<Cantide>
aah, of course
[18:09:44]
<nuvolari>
but it's good as is, not?
[18:10:08]
<inetpro>
superfly: you are hosting?
[18:10:10]
<smile>
yeah, some design tweaks maybe :)
[18:10:43]
<mazal>
I had an idea for the website
[18:11:26]
<inetpro>
mazal: an idea?
[18:11:36]
<mazal>
How about a little "bio" area where members can just give their short history of how they started with ubuntu and their experiences etc
[18:11:56]
<inetpro>
mazal: we can have that on the ubuntu wiki
[18:12:02]
<superfly>
mazal: the problem with the web site is that no one has the time to maintain it.
[18:12:07]
<superfly>
inetpro: no, CLUG hosts it
[18:12:12]
<inetpro>
ahh
[18:12:18]
* inetpro
remembers now
[18:12:26]
<magespawn>
superfly maybe a team to do it?
[18:12:30]
<magespawn>
or group
[18:12:39]
<superfly>
magespawn: doesn't work, already did that
[18:12:48]
<magespawn>
i can do basic stuff
[18:12:49]
<smile>
superfly: what is CLUG? :)
[18:12:53]
<smile>
a hosting company?
[18:12:53]
<magespawn>
oh okay
[18:12:59]

[18:14:10]
<magespawn>
superfly as long as the changes are not too hectic i should be able to manage it
[18:14:19]
<nuvolari>
Can we agree that this will be discussed in more detail?
[18:14:26]
<magespawn>
superfly in drupal?
[18:14:35]
<superfly>
magespawn: yes
[18:14:48]
<magespawn>
would be a good learning curve
[18:15:27]
<superfly>
*IF* we continue with Drupal, we will also need to upgrade to D7
[18:16:28]
<inetpro>
but we need more than just one person
[18:16:34]
<magespawn>
ahh well i am fairly easy
[18:16:50]
<nuvolari>
ok, we might need to move on if we wish to cover everything in time. We can add this to the following meeting's agenda too?
[18:16:53]
<Cantide>
I have some experience with PHP
[18:16:59]
<Cantide>
I may lend a hand when i have time
[18:17:21]
<inetpro>
ok superfly, do we agree to keep as is and try get more people involved?
[18:17:35]
<magespawn>
+1
[18:17:36]
<inetpro>
then we discuss again at next meeting?
[18:17:44]
<nuvolari>
+1
[18:17:47]
<superfly>
we can do that
[18:18:03]

<inetpro>
nuvolari: next topic?
[18:18:52]
<Cantide>
Pythons are dangerous >_>
[18:18:52]

inetpro or magespawn: are you going to run with that?
[18:20:01]
<inetpro>
superfly: I will follow up again in the evenings, and will try help where I can
[18:20:03]
* superfly
has family to deal with now
[18:20:09]
<smile>
superfly: :(
[18:20:28]
<magespawn>
with the website superfly?
[18:20:35]
<superfly>
magespawn: yes
[18:20:41]
<nuvolari>
i've seen some more complains this last couple of weeks on the mailing list on the latest ubuntu release
[18:21:00]
* inetpro
will discuss with magespawn and others and when superfly has time he will chime in
[18:21:00]
<magespawn>
sure i can commit sometime to it
[18:21:01]
<nuvolari>
I don't know how much of that is caused by user error though :P
[18:21:24]
<superfly>
nuvolari: in most cases, user error I think
[18:21:53]
<superfly>
also, people thinking that a reinstall will fix stuff when 99% of cases it won't
[18:21:59]
<nuvolari>
As for 12.10, I'm still running 12.04 so I can't comment. However, I did upgrade my brother's netbook to have an ubuntu dualboot with 12.10
[18:22:09]
<Cantide>
nuvolari, I had trouble and went back to 12.04; but then again, i did an upgrade and not a clean install, and on top of that i had some hardware trouble at the same time, so I can't make a fair judgement
[18:22:23]
<mazal>
I did use 12.10 and it was very buggy and very slow
[18:22:40]
<smile>
mazal: I have the same experience.
[18:23:01]
<nuvolari>
In general it seems that we have mixed experiences, both great and less great
[18:23:10]
<Cantide>
all in all, i felt that webapps were not as useful as i thought they'd be, and there wasn't much else new there that would bring me back to 12.10 instead of just waiting for the next version
[18:23:24]
* nlsthzn
pops in and says, "alo"
[18:23:27]
<smile>
yeah.. I expected the alpha releases/beta releases to be buggy (they were)
[18:23:29]
<nuvolari>
hi nlsthzn
[18:23:33]
<Kilos>
hi nlsthzn
[18:23:34]
<smile>
but the stable releases were still buggy
[18:23:40]
<smile>
which is a shame
[18:23:43]
<Cantide>
hey nlsthzn :)
[18:23:48]
<maiatoday>

[18:24:14]
<Kilos>
lol i am
[18:24:14]
<nuvolari>
well, I guess you can't blame them that much, as the LTS versions will be around much longer now
[18:24:16]
<Cantide>
my web apps used a lot of memory and weren't really helpful because i had to have the web pages open anyway -.-v

did I do it wrong again
[18:24:31]
<SmilyBorg>
the llvmpipe thing has made a world of difference to me, but had a nasty issue in lightdm the other day that wouldnt let me change between windoww managers/desktop environments
[18:24:36]
<nuvolari>
I suspect they will not focus on it to have the releaces in between spotless
[18:24:40]
<Kilos>
nlsthzn, maaz i am
[18:24:43]
* inetpro
's connection is lagging
[18:24:47]

[18:24:47]
<Maaz>
nlsthzn: Sure
[18:24:53]
<nlsthzn>
thanks uncle Kilos
[18:24:57]
<Kilos>
yw
[18:25:26]
* nuvolari
googles llvmpipe
[18:25:55]
<Cantide>
nuvolari, all releases should be spotless - what if it's a new users first experience with Ubuntu
[18:26:09]
<mazal>
I agree with Cantide
[18:26:22]
<SmilyBorg>
true
[18:26:26]
<mazal>
What's the point of having a release every 6 months , but it feels like a beta
[18:26:29]
<nuvolari>
I guess you're right :-/
[18:26:38]
<tumbleweed>
we aim to have all releases be high quality
[18:26:39]
<mazal>
Then rather release once a year a proper stable one
[18:26:52]
<tumbleweed>
LTS releases get special polish because they have to be supported for longer
[18:27:02]
<tumbleweed>
but all releases should be fit for use
[18:27:16]
<magespawn>
i usually stay on the lts
[18:27:22]
<mazal>
I feel they don't give themselves enough time on each release
[18:27:23]
<magespawn>
LTS
[18:27:41]
<nuvolari>
I'm one of the lucky ones, I did not have many issues lately
[18:27:44]
<Cantide>
i usually skip a release
[18:28:02]
<nuvolari>
ok, time is chasing us :-/
[18:28:08]
<Cantide>
i had a lot of freezing on 12.10, but i'm not sure if that was caused by faulty hardware or not
[18:28:19]
<tumbleweed>
I don't think more time would help. More time spent on polish rather than features, wouldl, though
[18:28:35]
<Cantide>
tumbleweed, agreed
[18:28:39]
<Cantide>
nuvolari, yes :/
[18:28:44]
* nlsthzn
